Anger continued to mount on Tuesday. City officials railed against Spencer. Families of those killed in the tornado said they believed the sirens could have saved lives.
Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) called on the Federal Emergency Management Agency to deliver critical assistance to St. Louis, which was devastated by an unprecedented tornado that killed more than a dozen people Friday.
On Tuesday afternoon, the City of St. Louis conducted a test of the emergency siren system, days after the sirens failed to go off in some areas before the May 16 tornado.
The tornado that tore across the St. Louis area Friday reached EF3 intensity and a mile in width, the National Weather Service said after a damage survey.

ST. LOUIS – Thousands of insurance claims have already been filed following Friday’s deadly tornado. “In the zip codes that were impacted by this tornado, we have about 14,500 homeowners’ insurance policies, we have just over 15,000 renters’ policies,” Angela Nelson, director of the Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance, said.
