India’s wholesale price index (WPI)-based inflation in April eased to 0.85 per cent from 2.05 per cent in March, according to data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday. The decline in inflation was driven by lower food prices.

India’s retail inflation cooled to 3.16% in April, the lowest in over five years, helped by a sharp drop in food prices. Rural inflation fell more sharply than urban, providing further relief for policymakers.
